deaf camp

( purple group 09!)

be warned.
this is my journal.
so all the things i dont want to forget about deaf camp are going to be posted.

first thing is larry. i seriously love this man. he is a "love you like Jesus" kinda guy. i look up to him so much. his views are completely in sync with mine about the deaf community and he is so amazing with the kids. i really hope to be able to get to spend more time with him in the future.

i had no idea that the camp i was going to was a protestant camp. it was both interesting and super fun to be around such great Christian people all week. every morning we thanked God for watching over us and apparently Catherine noticed.
is that the cutest shirt you have ever seen?
( God, we glad you're take care of Deaf Camp)

there were so many fun activities! rock climbing wall, zipline, crafts, fishing, row-boats,
kayaks, hot air balloon, swimming, etc. we kept busy.

superheros.

i read the cutest article in real simple today. for the full thing click here.

10 things summer blockbusters teach us about life.
by A.O. Scott

1) Heroes dont always know that they're heroes.
2) Heroism is a lonely, thankless vocation.
3) When the going gets tough, the usual rules dont apply.
4) Its always personal.
5) You can't trust anyone.
6) There is always someone you can trust.
7) There is always enough time. ( just enough)
8) You should never get too comfortable.
9) Everything will be okay in the end.
10) There is always a sequel.

my dads taught me...

that i can be anything i want to be.

and other important things, like:

how to (up)keep a home. how to speak in public. how to drink a coke. how to be gracious. how to work. how to
talk it out. how to mow the lawn. how to do the right thing, even when it is hard. how to live your whole life without needing a gun. how to sing. how to stand up for myself. how to drive a stick. how to rock your own style. how to ask for help. how to stick with your family, no matter what. how to be fancy. how to treat my mother. how to be polite. how to save. how to put my whole heart on the table.

i love you both, so much. happy fathers day.

funny and brilliant.
rapunzel breaks my heart.

remember...

( miss erika. photo by hayley.)

You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,
which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.

Kahlil Gibran

photo decor

i put up some decorations around the house in celebration of mr. jackmans b-day.
in lieu of something traditional, i thought i would bring in some photos of our life.
i think he had a good time going around the house and finding us all over.

the mr. and i swinging from a shelf

my parents rocking on a branch

mr. jackman in his tux presenting everything thats on tv

my other favorites were of mr. jackman as a character in a star wars poster
and us cut out of travis pastranas car and pasted into a skyline poster.

thanks a latte!

a few months ago a man came into the coffee shop. he was asking me prices of espresso shots while counting change in his pocket. he finally decided that he only had enough for a single shot. i made his drink and rang him up. then he tipped me a dollar. he didnt order a bigger size because he wanted to make sure he had enough to tip me. i couldnt believe how kind this stranger was.

last week for my brothers graduation we went to a local tepanyaki restaurant. and guess who our chef is? the espresso guy. i was so pleased that i could return the favor. i guess what goes around really does come around.

a horse, of course

this is daisy.
she is a two week old miniature horse.
she has crazy curly hair and will hoof you til you hold her.
and i want to put her in my bed and love her all day.
but i think that would make her mama nervous.
